ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

Responsible tax for a sustainable future

Presented by: Tax Law Commission

Workshop #7

DATE & TIME

LOCATION

 Thursday, 5 September

 14:00 – 16:00

Hotel Parco dei Principi (Meeting room to be communicated in the event mobile app)

DESCRIPTION

Climate change is a reality. In response to the biggest crisis facing humanity, governments are increasingly using environmentally-related taxes as a regulatory tool to encourage further sustainable development, green investment and innovations, as well as to discourage unsustainable behaviour and practices. For some companies, such taxes resulted in penalties on their greenhouse gas-intensive practices. For others, these provoked a shift to greener products or production processes and most of these companies have already benefited from new tax breaks.

The session of the Tax Law Commission will take a closer look at the role of existing taxes as a tool to promote sustainable behaviour, from the food we eat to the buildings where we work and live, and to the construction of new taxation tools for a sustainable behaviour. The session will also address the challenges that sustainable taxation brings to the competitiveness of developed and developing countries.
