Academic Programme

Fintech’s potential on the road to sustainability

Presented by: Banking, Finance and Capital Markets Commission; Insolvency Commission

Workshop #6

DATE & TIME

LOCATION

 Thursday, 5 September

 14:00 – 16:00

Gonzaga+Pallavicini+Medici room; Level B-C (-2 floor)

DESCRIPTION

The global financial system can be characterised by a complex framework of legal agreements, institutions, economic actors that together facilitate international flows of financial capital for purposes of investment and trade financing. Until now, there has been no mention of integrating sustainability into this framework. But this has changed with the rise of financial technology (fintech). Fintech has been disrupting every aspect of today’s financial system by making it more efficient, accessible and less vulnerable. In this session you will hear from speakers representing financial institutions, fintech startups, as well as lawyers. They will be exploring – and hopefully answering – questions such as how is fintech impacting global finance and our lives? Will fintech help achieve sustainable development in the financial world? And how sustainable is fintech in itself?
